The Interview
Name: Matt Moro
Country: Cuba (lived in Cuba for the first 24 years of his life)
Question 1: How did you identify yourself in Cuba?
Response 1: In Cuba, there is a strong Cuban Nationalism. Racial discrimination is at very peak. Therefore, most of the Afro-Cubans identify themselves to be Cubans first.
Question 2: Do you believe that the Afro-Cuban community enjoys freedom irrespective or the color of their skin?
Response 2: I would not say that. The Cuban Nationalism is stronger, but there are problems faced by the Afro-Cubans. There are issues of discrimination when you have to go and get a job.
Question 3: Do you believe that Afro-Cubans are involved in Cuban politics?
Response 3: There is not much politics in Cuba. Afro-Cubans have played some part in the Cuban politics but I do not think that it is to a greater extant. In fact no one is greatly involved in Cuban politics to a greater extant. There are specific people who do politics.
Question 4: Where did most of the African migrate from to Cuba?
Response 4: Well the history tells us that most of the Afro-Cuban came to Cuba some centuries ago as slaves. I would be better to say that they were brought to be slaves. They used to work in the sugarcane industry.
Question 5: What is the religion practiced by Afro-Cubans?
Response 5: I personally am not that much of a religious person but as far as I have seen, I Cuba most of the people are Catholic by identity but there are not many people who practice religion. Afro-Cubans also practice the Catholic Faith.
