What are the best ways to find an interesting research topic for your project?

What are the best ways to find an interesting research topic for your project?      
I think that the best way to find research topics is by searching the internet for issues or problems that have been made very public. If you write a research paper about a topic that is relevant to society and what is going on, it will generate interest. Also, I try and find a subject that I already know some information about so that I am not basing my whole paper on other people’s research. I like knowing what I am writing about, because it adds confidence.
