Why is it important to take into consideration the genre, audience and purpose of the final document?

Why is it important to take into consideration the genre, audience and purpose of the final document? Do you believe you can do proper research without knowing the genre, audience or purpose? Why or why not?

The importance of Genre, topic, and audience is that it provides a guiding lens in which to view the matter at hand throughout the research stages. If you do not understand the genre or situation that the research is for, then you may completely miss the intended mark, furthermore if you do not know your audience, you will not know how to effectively reach them. For example, if you are writing a research paper on how technology has impacted the world, you may use very different sources or statements when writing the research paper to an association of retired citizens when compared to the tone you may use if writing it to a team of NASA employees. All of this is to say, that while you can write a research paper without knowing these topics, you most certainly would be hard pressed to write an effective one.
