What is a key concept or foundational theory from the first four weeks of class? How does it apply to your current work environment or a recent social, political or business event you have attended or have seen in the media? What was the outcome? Do you think it could have been improved? Why or why not? If so, how?
One key concept that stuck out to me was the concept of culture. As I am an international student I recognize how important culture can be when conducting business, and marketing products to certain target groups. Different cultures have different perceptions, ways of thinking, ethics, and many more things. It applies to business and media because if the culture of somebody or a group is not understood it could kill chances of making a deal, or you could do something that is considered very rude to the other culture. You need to make sure you understand the others culture so that you know how they think and carry themselves in order to not damage the relationship. I cannot give a specific example, but I know in some cultures it is rude to hug, or it is normal to kiss the cheek of somebody. If you do not know this you could start the relationship off the wrong way. If the person studied the culture and knew that action was frowned upon it could have improved the situation.
