The conservatism in 1970’s and 1980’s was a reaction to the policies of the liberal era of 1960’s. John F Kennedy had failed to stop the USSR from the construction of the Berlin Wall that was banned on his liberal form of government. Also the American people wanted to stay the course in the Vietnam War and considered that the withdrawal from the war was against the patriotic values that American nation had.
The liberal policies of the Carter administration of being against the spread of weapon were considered by the conservative lot of the country to be weak. Carter also recognize one China with Taiwan as a part of it had some backlash in the conservative part of the America.
One of the economic view that existed in the 1960’s liberal era was economic freedom for all American. The Reagan government in the 1980’s adopted this liberal idea in their conservative government.
