Does In-Vehicle Technology Foster a False Sense of Security?

Does in-vehicle technology foster a false sense of security? It is a controversial subject, and I myself cannot support one over the other. I myself enjoy in-vehicle technology every day when I reverse my car, listen to the music, listen to the text messages, and even receive calls. One of the main complain I read about in-vehicle technology is that it makes drives lazy and they do not pay enough attention while driving, however, I do not blame technology for that. I think technology makes it driving safer by reading text messages, so the driver does not have to remove eyes from the road. Many apps provide unlimited access to the music keeping the driver entertained and not letting it fall in the sleep especially for the longer distances. Navigations has made life so much easier and reducing the risk of getting lost and wasting so much time and gas. Having navigation in my car gives me sense of security by not getting lost in any unfamiliar road or neighborhood. Having security sensor in my cars are useful while driving and also when my car is just parked in the neighborhood. In this era, technology is a blessing, however, it brings  the great responsibility for users to use it with sense because if technology is not used with caution it can pose the biggest threat for anyone.

Second Opinion

Yes, of course in vehicle technology fosters a false sense of security because people are very naive. Many people, in particular teenagers are fooled by special gadgets that are implemented in vehicles which often leads to distractions and a false sense of security because if something were to happen in which the driver could be in danger the special features of the car will protect them. For instance, lane departure has become a leading safety mechanism put in cars to protect drivers from accidentally moving from one lane into another unknowingly. But lets be real more and more accidents are happening with this feature because people let their guard down. Plus the only reason someone would do that would be because they’ve been distracted either by their cell or even other features in the car such as their radio, navigation etc….

Although these features are somewhat distracting, there are in-vehicle technologies that do provide the driver with help, such as the 911 instant reaction button put into many cars nowadays. As our generation continues to grow and innovations continue to flourish especially in motor vehicle safety, people need to be aware that even though these “safety” precautions are taken in vehicles there are chances for imperfections in these systems and you could still be at risk of getting into an accident. People need to be aware that even though cars are titled as “safe and reliable” you can only truly rely on yourself to keep out of harms way.
