Designer baby Genetic Makeup

Designer baby comprises of the genetic makeup that has been transformed or chosen to provide the anticipated genome. Although, this topic is frightening to me but can be exciting to others. Therefore,  I would not even try to do it for two solid reasons.

Initially, the first reason being that I was not genetically modified, and neither a single member in my family, so I am contented and happy with my status. Thus, I will not like any of my family member or offspring to be genetically modify. Additionally, there are many pros attached to it like eliminating or decreasing the incident of serious  genetic illnesses in human. However, many people see it has dangerous and unnatural and does not consider the consent for the future generation. There are three types of genetic modifications according to the video: Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), Transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs) and Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR) and of all the three, PGD is safe to be used on humans.

Furthermore, screening for diseases on an embryo is a fascinating work of scientists which many people would like to do. I can withstand this because it has nothing to do with altering my baby’s gene. I understand that our inherited genes are what really make a person and should not be altered in any form.

Finally, it is nice to know about all the pros of genetic modification like preventing disease development, altering the eye color and hair of human. Nevertheless, methods like TALENs and CRISPR are still being developed and of all the cons stated, loss of individuality is the one that interested me the most. I will not recommend it for my child.
