What are the four basic functions of a computer? Describe each process with examples
The four core functions of a computer include input, output, processing and storage. Input entails the transferring or putting of information in the computer system. The process might be facilitated using either a scanner, mouse or keyboard. The information might also be loaded using a lately loaded disc, but the commonly used hardware is the keyboard. The second function of the computer is processing. The process involves the manipulation of data done by the computer systems. Processing is facilitated by the processor and the random access memory (RAM). The processing process entails the capacity of the PC to manipulate information at the direction of the programmer’s input. The process includes performing a calculation in the calculator on the computer involving entering figures and awaiting results.
The third function of a computer is storage. The storage involves the ability and process of saving information within the computer after the data has been processed. Storage might be either temporary mostly to facilitate processing or long-term (permanent) depending on the wishes of the owner. The storage occurs on the hard drives within the computer or at times on the external storage sources. External storage sources include flash discs and memory cards. The final function of the computer is output function. Output relates to whereby the computer displays the processed information for the information to be viewed by the user and some other audiences. Output usually involves the use of monitors and printers among other hardware components. Output entails the final product which is separate from what is in the computer system. The output might involve the printing of a hard copy material, for instance, a project using a printer.
