Why is it often desirable to undertake problem redefinition when trying to find solutions for problems? Take any management problem you consider has many possible solutions and outline two methods that might be used to help redefine the problem.
The problem redefinition is important because the steps that are going to be taken to correct a problem is directly related to how we perceive the problem. If the problem is not perceived correctly, the steps taken to solve it might not yield the desired results.
For example we have a manager who is constantly in conflict with his subordinates. We can use the Problem redefinition method of Goal Orientation by first a general statement like “what is the reason behind the manager being in constant conflict subordinates?” and then go on and reach to a new problem statement like “how can better communication improve the relations between the manager and the subordinates?”
The why method can be used by repeatedly asking Why questions like “why is the manager in constant conflict with the subordinates?” then answering it by saying “he is not properly communicating with the subordinates”. Going on with the “Why” and “Answers” till there is a perfect redefinition.
