Surface culture and aspects of deep culture
Please describe aspects of your surface culture and aspects of your deep culture. How do these cultural characteristics compare and contrast from the Jewish culture? From the Muslim ethnic/national/cultural groups? What types of conflict might arise as a result of the differences in your comparison & contrast? How do these differences get reconciled?
Surface culture and aspects of deep culture
Surface culture
I belong to an Arab ancestry. The surface culture of the Arabian Peninsula is almost the same. We wear long robes that is a dress that is a traditional Arab dress. We primarily eat a lot of proteins in the form of camel, goat and sheep meat.
Deep culture
Arabs are usually more inclined into traditional ways of spending their lives. They are reserved and conservative. They keep things to themselves and parents have a stronger hold on families.
Comparison with Muslim culture
What we actually call Muslim culture is in fact Arab culture. The surface and deep cultural aspects of Muslim culture are a reflection of the Arab culture.
Comparison with Jewish culture
Jewish people have different way of dressing than Arabs, if we look at orthodox Jews, the primary aim of their clothing is almost the same as Arabs that is to cover their whole bodies. The deep cultures of Arabs and Jews may be different as Jews have been living around the world and are more open to changes than Arabs are and have learned new experiences.
Conflicts
The conflicts between Jewish and Arab culture arises due to the differences between their religious believes and practices. Though the religion of Jews and Arabs (Islam) belong to the same Abrahamic root, the prophets they believe in are different. This might be a cause of deep down hate for each other.
Reconciliation
I think that reconciliation is very much possible if both Arabs and Jews start to live in the present and let the bygones be bygones. There is a need to start a fresh dialogue and look for the similarities between the two cultures instead of looking for differences that divide both of them.
