Being a supplier comes with responsibility, due to the fact that many of the product information is considered confidential. There are many parts confidential information such as product design, marketing, third party contractors, and communicating business information to suppliers. If the supplier has access to the product design they could potentially ruin the business by releasing the information to competitors or the public. This could cause the product’s company to lose a competitive edge they may have had previously, and help out the competitors. The supply manager has a responsibility to keep this information confidential, and if they do not there could be potential litigation. Companies take confidentiality very seriously because it is essentially a company’s secrets, and the supply manager needs to ensure that the staff is aware of the seriousness and abide by all rules in order to protect confidentiality.
